John E. Skinner Memorial Award – Notice

Attention students,

If you plan to attend the 153rd annual American Fisheries Society meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan and need funds to cover travel expenses, please consider applying for the John E. Skinner Memorial Award. The 2023 application deadline is 1 April at midnight PST.

Any student who is active in fisheries or related aquatic disciplines, and has not previously won a full Skinner award, is eligible to apply.

Each year, awards will be given to ten students who will receive up to $800 in reimbursement for travel related expenses to the national meeting. An additional five students will be selected as an honorable mention and will receive complimentary registration for the national meeting. Both those who win the full award or receive an honorable mention will get a complimentary 1-yr student membership to AFS. Students will be evaluated based on their involvement with AFS, track record in professionalism and leadership, reason for attending the meeting, and a letter of support from their faculty advisor.

The Awards Committee is committed to increasing diversity and inclusion within AFS. As part of this effort, we highly encourage nominations for individuals from historically underrepresented groups in the fisheries field.
